SEO – Search Engine Optimisation explained
What is SEO?
SEO is the method used to help a website appear as high up the rankings in a search engine as possible. The idea is to have your website list on page one for a particular subject, product, or service.
SEO involves a well-designed website that includes unique and quality content which includes well-written phrases and keywords. A search engine picks up and rewards you by putting you ahead of other websites offering the same thing.
Can you SEO yourself?
It takes a lot of time to learn what good SEO is and how to apply it efficiently. SEO also evolves and changes over time. You can learn the basics, but if you are serious about your website ranking well you should hire a reputable SEO marketing company.
Your time is best spent running your Business rather than learning how to SEO it yourself.
Unrealistic expectations
Be wary of any SEO company that promises you to rank on Google’s first page quickly. Unless you have a large marketing budget, or you are in a very narrow niche that has little competition, you will need a clear and concise marketing plan and this takes time.
A good SEO company can however help your website go up the rankings and also keep you ranking well for your chosen keywords and phrases. A really good SEO company can at least get some of your web pages to page one or two for certain topics or services.
For example, it may be difficult to rank on page one for furniture, but you could rank on page one for blue handmade barstools.
It can be surprisingly affordable to rank for a niche product, or key phrase if your SEO company thinks outside the box.
The best SEO is organic and often reduces the need for sponsored ads, saving you money.
SEO research
A good SEO company will spend a fair amount of time on market research before implementing change. You need to make sure that when you start your SEO campaign every Pound, Dollar or Euro is being spent wisely.
An SEO company will need to fully understand your business, your competition, and your target audience.
Finally
Once an SEO company understands your business needs, once they know what you want to achieve they can put together a plan on how to achieve your goals. You can not expect to rank highly and then stop SEO afterward, it takes work to get you to the top and it also takes work to keep you there long term.
The next stage is to start working on building your SEO into your website’s design, architecture, and content. They will also work on your brand recognition.
The goal is to ensure you have a fantastic website, well-designed and relevant to your niche. Your website should flow well for readers and steer them towards a call to action, like buying your product or using your services.
