Splinterlands Fan Art Illustration: Bera Dallin
Hi, I'm Paul, an aspiring graphic designer and illustrator.
Over the past few weeks, I've been busy preparing for my graduation, starting with settling the necessary fees for my graduation photoshoot. As a student and scholar supported by taxpayers' contributions, I'm fortunate that some of the miscellaneous fees have been waived.
In addition to these preparations, I've been dedicating my time to my thesis, which has been both exciting and nerve-wracking as the defense date approaches. To manage my anxiety, I’ve been drawing doodles as a way to relax and refocus.
MY ART REFERENCE
For this week's art contest, I decided to create a fan illustration of Bera Dallin.
Based on it's lore, Bera Dallin, a hill dwarf and former mayor of New Everitt, fled her town when the Chaos legions invaded the Splinterlands. Determined to fight back, she gathered allies and performed a ritual at a magical temple to summon the Riftwatchers for assistance.
Over five years, Bera and her team weakened the Chaos Empire through ambushes, sabotage, and training the people of Praetoria to resist. Their efforts restored hope and courage among the populace, who are now prepared to rise up against their oppressors. Bera plans to lead them in the final battle to reclaim their land and freedom.
MY ART PROCESS
For my artwork, I want to showcase my stylized portrait version of Bera Dallin with her long, flowing hair. My sketch composition centers on the upper body, highlighting her figure and the design of the armor, incorporating both circular and angular elements, conveying a blend of elegance and strength.

For the coloring process, some of the colors I've used are based on the reference photo. The fantasy-inspired suit of armor features gold and purple accents. I love her expression after adding some tones on the skin showing her confident yet somewhat contemplative.

MY FINISHED ART
Because I like warm tones, I've search for a background appropriate for my artwork and found a gradient of pink and orange, imbuing the piece with a serene, glowing atmosphere. The background photo is by Dave Hoefler on Unsplash.
