Weekend Experience: CAPSO 2023

Hello friends! I am back with my weekend experience once again!
Last week has been a fun, tiring, and empowering event for Political Science Students in Cebu. ICYDK, CAPSO (Cebu Association of Political Science Organizations) is where all POLSCI students in different schools get to gather and showcase their intelligence and talents through debates, quiz bowls, sports, dances, etc.

Day 1
The opening day! The CAPSO for this year was held in University in San Jose Recoletos-Basak Campus.

The first event was a parade of schools, Mr. and Ms. Capso, and the Dance Palabas where different schools had a competition on different festivals in Cebu.

My school which is CNU has numbered 1 contestant in Mr. and Ms. CAPSO while in Dance Palabas, we showcased the Sugat-Kabanhawan festival of Minglanilla.

Our school was able to get the first runner-up title in Ms. CAPSO while 2nd runner-up in Mr. CAPSO! The held winners were from USC and all the contestants showed great performance throughout the competition and answered rounds of political and social justice questions which truly made each school they are representing proud!

Also on this first day, we witnessed the sports of volleyball and basketball which my classmates (part of the basketball women's team) not just provided a great offense and defense play but an entertaining one!

I can't seem to find another photo for them, thus I'll use different team with this one. Hehe.

DAY 2

The championship plays for both volleyball and basketball! There were a lot of shouting and cheers and we were able to get the 1st runner-up title!

In the afternoon, we watched the debate from TEAM B which was also composed of two of my classmates. This was the most tiring day for me because it was Sunday, and I was in school for the events. Added that I was about to be on my monthly period, my hormones had kind of shifted and I can't sleep at night.

Regardless, I am happy that I was with my classmates during these times as it is truly a boost of morale seeing people supporting you in a competition.

Day 3

In the morning, we need to be at school for another event which is CAS Days and, in the afternoon, we need to be at USJR for the closing program. In Cebuano, it was kind of "hangak" or exhausting. Yet, it was a great sight to see my co-PolSci students cheering for their schools in every win and mention!

There was also a singing competition and finals debate before the actual awarding of winners!

At night, there was a bonfire where we were given pieces of paper to write our aspirations and burn it down on the bonfire!

It was truly a great 3-day experience! and as a senior political science, truly something I will bring with me with a happy heart wherever life brings me.
