A Minnesota Beekeeper in Spring - It's Sprung!!

April 19, 2018

Spring has sprung! T-shirt weather today, 50° ! The girls were out flying and doing the things that bees do. Well, most of them were. I went out today to check sugar syrup, to find my queens, or to see if there is any eggs yet. I did not see any eggs. Hive Stripe, I found the queen. They have eaten ½ pint of sugar syrup. Will add more tomorrow. They still have some in the can from the cage yet. Hive white, I did not see any signs of a queen, nor did I find the queen. But, it is early yet. The weather has been horrible, so I would have been surprised to have found any eggs. Hive Lang. Hive Lang did not make it. The winter storm that came through killed them. They are the hive that the wind blew back the top super and inner cover. I suppose with that wind, they were not able to keep warm enough. I found the dead queen. I will use her in a swarm trap.
At least it is on. The bees are in the air, on a beeline. Wondering just what they are finding. I plan on getting the outside of the hive feeder out tomorrow as well.

Thanks for reading along.dead queen1.jpg
