Weekend Reset, Holiday Mood and All
It’s honestly a good thing that it’s already the weekend. I’ve been needing it so badly, because I’m still carrying that holiday mood like it’s a hoodie I refuse to take off.
This morning, I had that tiny, dramatic thought of calling in sick. Not because I was truly unwell, but because my brain was still somewhere between Christmas leftovers and “do we really have to work today?” But I knew it wouldn’t feel right. It wouldn’t be professional, and I didn’t want to start my day with guilt on top of laziness, so I still showed up.
The afternoon was the real battle.
I kept staring at my tasks like they were speaking a different language. I tried to focus, then I drifted, then I pulled myself back again. It wasn’t smooth, but somehow, the hours moved, and I managed to complete the majority of what I needed to do. That part matters. Even if the pace was slower than usual, I still moved forward.
I won’t lie, I felt a little disappointed that I didn’t do “enough.” But maybe enough looks different on days like this. Maybe showing up and finishing most of the work is already a win, especially when motivation is running low.
As Anne Lamott said, “Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.”
So that’s my plan. Rest, reset, and regain my motivation, then make it up next week.
