WIP Take Two: Sewing Boogaloo
Hey needlework friends! I was inspired by the completionist @neumannsalva to pick up a project I first started probably two years ago and try and get some more work done on it. That's right, it's The Return Of The Patchwork Curtain!
The above is how far I got on the first round of sewing (it's all wrinkly from being in my sewing WIP basket, lol). It is made up of a lot of upcycled clothing, as well as some fabric I had in my stash. Subsequently, the squares are all different shapes and sizes as it's whatever I could get out of that shirt or skirt or whatever. And I like that, actually - if you're going to go patchwork, you may as well make it all different shapes and sizes too!
It's giant size because it's for my sliding glass doors that go out to the balcony.
Yuan was an excellent helper, as I was sewing pretty much all day Saturday and for a couple of hours on Sunday, too.
Simone said on IG after I shared a photo of my workspace on the floor, that she imagined me doing yoga poses to sew. Well, this was the pose, with my foot on the machine pedal off screen at the bottom of the image, lol.
I was getting very frustrated as I am using very old thread so it kept breaking. ARGH. That's actually what made me gave up for the day on Sunday. I was like, "I AM FULL OF MURDER I NEED TO STOP NOW" after the approximately 1,000th thread snap.
This was the image of the state of my living room after day 1 of sewing. :) I am working on the third row of patches right now.
The plan is to make the curtain insulated, so that on cold days with our leaky windows I can keep the heat in. I plan on lining it with an old blanket that is holey, as well as some other things but we'll see how it goes when I get to that part. I have some old thermal shirts that I was thinking to use for the holey parts of the blanket/where the blanket doesn't cover.
Wish me luck (and unbreaking thread!)! :)
