Amélie (2001) - Movie That Makes Me Happy: Cine TV Contest #133.
When I saw this week's contest, I was searching in my head about what movie I could talk about that made me happy. Honestly, I can't remember any recent movie that has fulfilled my heart.
Probably, it's because of my busy schedule I missed watching many movies and series. Or maybe the ear of movie is changing and going a slite sideway from my taste.
While thinking about all of this, Amélie came to my mind.
"I have watched Amélie many years ago, but forgot many details. But I remember the essence. The warm, magical masterpiece was something that I can't forget."
Amélie is a French film, the original name is Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain ( I got the name from Google). I watched it many times when I was a student back then. This is the movie that helped me dream of building a magical life. I couldn't be the one. But in my head, I'm Amélie.
I have watched a few clips to remind myself about the movie. And it gave me the craving to watch the full film again.
Story without spoiler.
Amélie is a shy quiet girl who lives in Paris. With her simple acts, she loves to change or bring happiness to other's life. For example, she returned a nostalgic piece to an old man.
She creates her own magical world, by creating her own happiness. She was like a fairy princess who made others happy with her simple acts.
At last, she managed to make a connection with her loved one and it was a happy ending.
What makes the movie special?

I enjoyed these small, heartwarming romance scenes so much.
The beauty of the film is its overly dramatic but the ordinary setting. The warmness of the cinematography captures the life of the 80s and 90s (my time) and probably because of that I loved it so much.
I loved the simplicity, the poetic style of storytelling, and the phase of the movie. It is a perfect movie to enjoy at your home, alone, while it's raining outside. It can make an evening cozy.
What I love most about the film?
The magical aura of the film, for sure. I was in my teen years when I first watch this film.
The adventure of Amélie, her ability to bring happiness to others' lives, and seeing others happy from behind was something magical to me. I wished I could make that happen in my life.
When she found her love Nino and finally connected with him was the definition of true love to me. How they romance, in a very soft and gentle way was what amazed me and is still in my head.
Trailer
It's a film that I enjoyed watching and I'm sure will feel the same now. Maybe this wouldn't fit with today's taste of romance and this genre. That's okay. Back then, this film was more than overwhelming to watch her journey as I can relate to her.
I didn't talk about the casts in my review as I'm not very familiar with French films and actors except Audrey Tautou and Jean-Pierre. They along with other casts did great in the film.
To me, it's the essence of the film, the aurora of the main character, her adventure like a fairy process made my inner self happy. It gave me a new perspective on life. And I believe, it still can do so to many after so many years.
Amélie got IMDb 8.3/10, and Rotten Tomatoes 90%. I would give this a solid 8.5/10.
