Introduction

Most of us started our Wax journey by creating a Wax Cloud Wallet (WCW) as part of getting started in Alien Worlds or Farmers World. Once you have used this custodial wallet for a while, you might decide it's time for you to take ownership of your account. Anchor is the most popular non-custodial Wax/EOS wallet. However, it is not possible to import your WCW into Anchor because WCW has no private key. In order to create an Anchor Wallet, you will need to create a new Wax account first and then import it into Anchor.

Make an Account

To make an account you need two pairs of public and private keys. These will be your owner and active keys.

Generate Keys

We will be using Anchor Wallet to generate the key pairs. On the left hand side, choose Tools, the Manage Keys under Security. At the Key Manangement screen, click Generate Key Pairs.

Click on the Save Keys to Wallet button.

Create Wax Account

Armed with your newly generated key pairs, we can go your WCW to create a new account. At the bottom right hand corner next to the Logout button of your WCW, click on the cog wheel Settings, then choose Create New Wax Account.

Go back to your Key Management in Anchor, remember to put a check mark on Show Legacy Format. Copy the two Public Keys over to the Create New Wax Account screen on WCW. Lastly, choose a 12 character name and click the Create Wax Account button.

Import into Anchor

To get your newly created account into Anchor, go to the Manage Wallet screen and click Scan for Accounts. It should find your account and a proper Home screen will be loaded. Before using your account, more RAM is needed if you do a lot of selling and staking. CPU also needed to be topped up if you play with games which has a lot of on-chain transactions.
