Snakes will not say sorry when it bites.
Sola was so happy that if he were a bird, he would fly into the galaxy.
He hasn't been able to sleep due to his answered prayers.
He is the first petroleum engineer in his family, and he has the sun smiling on his career as he was given employment to work in the biggest refinery in his town.
His joy goes beyond limits; not that it would elevate him, but it was the work he had a passion for, and he also wanted to prove himself.
He was in the refinery as early as the cock crows.
“ You will be running an internship for six months,” Mr Magnus, the department superior, said, and Sola couldn't give off more than a very serious person.
“Cool off and relax, young man, and wait for me at the reception,” He said, looking at Sola, who looked like a soldier on the war front.
Five minutes later, a young man of Sola’s age came up as summoned by Mr Magnus.
He was putting on fire-retardant coveralls and a hard hat while his safety glasses dangled around his neck.
He wore steel-toe safety boots and protective gloves.
“Good day, sir,” he said.
“Good day, Charles,” Mr Magnus replied, drew a string of hair from his moustache, and continued.
“ I believe you saw a man in the reception while coming; his name is Sola and he is our new employee,
" He will be your mentee for six months, so teach him the refinery procedures, ensure that he follows safety rules, and evaluate his performance daily and report back to me,” Mr Magnus uttered with his calm face as his eyes kept staring at Charles from head to toe.
“ Consider it done, sir,” Charles said, smiling and nodding his head to show that he understood what his superior was talking about, and left the office. Since then, Charles became Sola’s mentor, colleague, and friend.
Every week, they both visited each sector of the refinery, and Charles showed Sola how things were done, but to Charles' surprise, Sola knew fifty percent of most things he was taught in the first few months, and it also got to Mr Magnus.
Although Sola was the best in his class during university days, he never let go of his focus and studied online, so it was never far-fetched before he understood the practical aspect of what he had studied, and on the other hand, this became a problem for Charles.
Sola knew himself and was very aware that he is not perfect and will surely offend people around him in one way or the other, but he also tries his best to swallow the humble pie if he hurts people unintentionally, but what he doesn't like is when people try to pretend that they are right when it is obvious that they aren't.
Charles is a typical example of that person in anything he does.
He belches without taking excuses and pass gass when ever they are together.
At first, Sola thought it was his habit and later confirmed that he irritated Charles, but didn't know why.
Charles, on the other hand, believed he would lose his position to Sola after the internship and decided to aim at him with any given opportunity, but Sola knew it was a matter of time.
The last day of the internship, Charles decided to show Sola the backup generator and took him to where it was stationed.
He asked Sola to put his hand in an actual position so that he would know where to start the generator, and where his hand was to prime up something.
After Charles left, Sola quickly observed that the place his hand was was where the engine would collide and quickly removed his hand and confirmed that he was right that his mentor wanted to destroy his hand.
Charles came back, and the first thing he did was look at Sola’s hand and flip it up to see if it would dangle.
“Sorry now,” Charles said.
“Sorry!” Sola replied.
He was so shocked and disappointed that he just walked away without saying anything anymore.
After the internship, Sola was sent to another sector which was different from Charles', so he made sure he distanced himself from him.
Charles thought Sola was expecting him to come beg him and would put up an act whenever they met.
“ Whereas I am his superior,” Charles would reckon, but Sola, on the other hand, was grateful that he quickly knew who Charles was, and the best thing to do was to stay away because a snake will not say sorry when it bites.
