Is Upvoting really subjective or is it relative to the ammount of reputation that you have?

What really is the reason that a post is upvoted?

Is an Upvote really dependent on the quality of the content that you create, or is it about the type of content you create, how much reputation you have, and what you tag it in?

Personally I believe that one could create very high quality content yet still not be upvoted for it because it either isn't tagged correctly/that topic isn't very popular or their reputation is too low. Am I incorrect in this statement or does this have validity to it?

Im curious to see how this plays out as this is somewhat of a Psychological experiment to see if the title is of strong influence by indirectly asking people to upvote my content, muahahahaha!!

But really what makes one get so many upvotes???
