Freedom after speech does not mean we can say just anything.

Hello, everyone.

I welcome you to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learners' featured post. We were all taught our fundamental rights as humans back then in high school, and one of those rights is that we have the freedom of speech, but when we look around us, we realise that it did not end well for at least 90% of people that expressed that right; it never ends well, and sometimes it feels like that particular right is just for the books and not to be expressed or enjoyed at all because the moment you move the motion to enjoy it, the government frowns at such a move.

There are so many ways that speech can happen, as individuals we have different ways to express ourselves and how we feel inside of us, some express themselves by talking, some through singing and music and then we have some who just pass their message with no single word said just a drawing on the wall or a piece of paper and through that drawing they have said more than a hundred words. I love the wordless style of passing a message and trust me not everybody can do that and for that reason I admire those who can and their every piece of art.

Art is one level of creativity that words cannot express; only the art can express itself because words are not enough to describe or explain the entire meaning of the piece. A single piece of art can carry 10 different messages and can be understood differently by individuals and seen from different perspectives; in one piece of art, an individual can see what the other does not see or fails to see. As much as I support art and paintings, I have seen some paintings that I do not support for the type of messages that they carry.

There is an eatery in my neighbourhood that turned their walls into something really great, different paintings, and that painting alone attracts people to their eatery, but there is a particular painting on their wall that I still wonder why was added; it is a painting of a young man stabbing another young man with a broken bottle. As much as the art is beautiful, the message it carries is a bad one; it promotes cultism and gives tips on how one can harm the other. All the message that particular painting carries is a negative one, which will definitely leave a negative impact.

So I think as an artist one should be allowed to express themselves freely and as they want when they are the only ones going to consume that particular painting or when they have a target audience and not murals or paintings in public places that can be consumed or seen by just anyone. Some people see this and look for opportunities to practicalise it, so murals and paintings in public places that we cannot decide who will see them and who will not should always pass the right message. The fact there are no target audience make passing the right message very important, and I support the government banning any that pass the wrong message or any that will promote violence and disturb the peace of the neighbourhood in any way.
