As part of recent sessions in Kalavian Tales, the Players learnt more about the various dimensions of the game world, and they unlocked a new talent type as well!

Dimensions in Kalavia

The Kalavian world has a primary dimension, which can be observed by all and represents the physical plane. It also has four additional dimensions which are much harder to observe, and can only be viewed by some.

List of dimensions

Physical axis

We are familiar with this one. It has three dimensions (x,y and z) and moves across a fourth dimension (time). It represents the world as we know it.

Aspirational axis

This dimension shows possible future outcomes within the physical world, given the current state of affairs. Not that this plane displayed plausible or even likely futures, but not certain ones, as Kalavia is not a deterministic world. Observers use this plane to figure out what others intend (with high reliability) or what the future will bring (with much lower reliability).

Anecdotal axis

This dimension shows consensual acknowledged memories within the physical world. A memory from a single person is hidden, but a memory shared by two or more will become a manifestation within this dimension. Memories from the deceased do not immediately disappear. Instead, they linger around for a length of time that depends on their strength and intensity. Seers who can see along the anecdotal often reveal important historical events that few are aware of.

Ethical axis

This dimension shows people’s morality and desires. Living beings are tinted with various colours and patterns depending on their moral traits (which are closely related to the personality system in Kalavian Tales).

Subliminal axis

This dimension shows the thoughts and dreams of everyone. Thoughts will be quick, fleeting and hard to catch. Dreams are more prolonged and are much more straightforward to observe.

Manipulating the additional dimensions

Most creatures manipulate the additional dimensions through their actions in the primary dimension. However, there are exceptions. Channelers who are also Seers can destroy memories, dreams or aspirations. Sorcerers who are also Seers can attempt to manipulate memories, dreams or aspirations. Growers who are also Seers can attempt to manipulate personalities on the Ethical plane.

The Observer / Seer Talent

Observers or Seers do not create. But their sight extends beyond the primary dimension, allowing them to see and know things that others cannot. Within Kalavia, reality spans from the primary dimension, which everyone can observe, to four other planes. These are the Aspirational Plane, the Anecdotal plane, the Ethical plane and the Subliminal plane. Depending on their skill level, Seers are able to see these additional dimensions, either by exercising concentration or continually.

Skill Tiers:

First
First Tier Seers can observe one additional specific dimension when they concentrate. The dimension is fixed for every person.
Second
Second Tier Seers can observe two additional specific dimensions when they concentrate. The dimension is fixed for every person. Alternatively, they can see one additional dimensions continuously.
Third
Third Tier Seers can observe two additional dimensions continuously. Alternatively, they can see any of three additional dimensions when they concentrate. Alternatively, they can see one additional dimension continuously and extend their primary dimension observation when they concentrate.

VaX: the only one in Kalavia that observes everything.
