Can a sentient magic sword really smell an odor? According to the 5th edition Dungeon Master's Guide, sentient magic items can see and hear to varying degrees, but no mention of a sense of smell. So we can pretty much assume Krod the flaming sword is just being a jerk and NOT just making an observation.
In fact, it could be he was such a jerk that his fellow Azers in the Elemental Plane of Fire were more than happy to see him get kidnapped. It would go a long way to explaining why no one bothered to teach him to stay away from strange people offering treats to get into their carriage!
In real-world news, I'm flying back to the States (western Washington) for the Christmas and holiday season early tomorrow morning. I probably won't get another strip out before Christmas, so to everyone here on Hive have a great Christmas and I'll see you all after New Year's!
