AOC, Summer Lee, and AIPAC

The battle lines are drawn. AOC supports a “progressive” black woman named Summer Lee, a Democratic congressional nominee in Pennsylvania. AIPAC (The American Israel Public Affairs Committee), a pro-Israel lobbying group, opposes Summer Lee’s candidacy.

AOC attacks AIPAC – not for the first time – claiming that by opposing Summer Lee, “AIPAC is working for Republican control of Congress and further destabilization of US democracy.” Really? AIPAC wants to destabilize American democracy??? That’s a ridiculous, fact-free claim.

So why is AIPAC taking sides in this particular PA congressional race? What problem could AIPAC possibly have with Summer Lee? To answer that question, just take a look at a couple of Lee’s tweets from earlier in this congressional campaign. (See above.) …

It would appear that AIPAC has a sound reason for its opposition to Summer Lee. She has expressed rabidly radical, anti-Israel political views. And those views don’t exactly square with AIPAC’s purpose statement:

"We encourage and persuade the U.S. government to enact specific policies that create a strong, enduring & mutually beneficial relationship with our ally Israel."
