Connected Yet Alone: My Reflection in the Mirror of Social Media

This isn’t just a discussion topic—
It’s a real issue we face every single day in our society.
So today, I’ve come to share some of my personal experiences, observations, and feelings around this prompt.
A Voice From Within...
There was a time when I thought social media meant only happiness—
I’d upload a picture, friends would comment, I’d smile.
But now, it feels like I’m not even there.
Honestly, I don’t even know where I am anymore.

I'm just a regular 20-year-old guy.
I have friends, but at times, it feels like I have none.
Even though I’m “connected” to everyone, when I cry into my pillow at night—nobody knows.
What I share on social media isn’t me.
It’s a version of me that everyone likes.
And the real me—that part is slowly disappearing.
One day, my mom asked,
"Why are you always on your phone? Who are you talking to all day?"
I didn’t answer.
I didn’t say—I don’t talk to anyone.
I just stare at my face on the screen and wonder,
“Am I good enough?”

Connected, Yet Disconnected
Yes, social media has kept us connected,
But our hearts have become lonely.
There was a time when we used to play together in the field, tell stories, read books.
Now? Everyone is lost in their own screen.
Even when three people share the same room, they don’t speak to each other.
Friends don’t feel like friends anymore—they just leave a reaction or emoji.
The same goes for studying—
We used to read books and think deeply.
Now we just search YouTube for a shortcut.
It’s convenient, yes.
But it’s also scary—
We’re slowly losing the power to think.
Final Words
I don’t want social media to disappear.
I just want us to stay human.
To measure people not by likes, but by love.
To remember—on the other side of the screen is a heart,
A human being, whose smile is real And so is their pain.
Hope you liked it.
