FIT OR HEALTHY?
FIT OR HEALTHY?
That's a question I ask myself anytime I look at myself in the mirror.
I didn't think I was either. I was neither fit nor did I see myself to be healthy.
After an accident that I had, which made my hormones spiral into an imbalanced situation. I began to add regardless of whether I ate or not.
Even when I am stressed, I add.
Being a student with everything depending on your parents and only sometimes would I be able to help out, my eating habits became hard to change.
My eating habits consisted mostly of eating indomie, biscuits, spaghetti and rice.
Rarely, would I cook any other kind of meals, because it cost more money to prepare them or buy the ingredients.
Sometimes, I do not eat till the next day and use sleep as a way to hold myself.
Our lectures usually end my 5-6 pm and begin from 8 am.
So I am leaving the house by 7:20, to get to the lecture venue on time and If I don't cook the night before that day or wake up early to cook, I would probably be going to school with an empty stomach.
And in school, I will have to buy things like gala, biscuit etc to hold my stomach.
One time, I went to hospital because I was ill and It was required I take a scan, so that they will have a confirmatory diagnosis of my situation.
During the scan, the Doctor was like, "Do I eat to much?"
I was stunned by the question and didn't know how to answer.
I thought about it for a moment. Sometimes when I am hungry, I could eat up to 3 plates like as if I have been starved for months.
I answered him, "Yes Sir 😂"
"So, you know you eat too much" He cajoled, "Do you know why I am asking you that?" He asked me.
I shook my head in response, "No sir."
"It's because the scan shows you have a big stomach. It's very large." He commented with a laugh.
Not like there was anything wrong with my stomach but the anatomical size of my stomach was quite large.
In my head, I was like, so my stomach is the 4th most biggest organ I have in my body.
He continued by telling me, to diet. That my body size isn't good.
I didn't take any offense as even I myself knew that.
The Doctor in charge of my case, had also taken her time to tell me the same thing.
She also confirmed that the reason I kept adding weight even when stressed was due to my imbalanced hormones.
She started asking me what kind of food I eat and before I knew it, she told me to abandon eating most of them.
I had to explain to her that, I don't have money to actually fund the diet good for my health.
She agreed with that and asked me to always use a lot of greens whenever I am eating any meal.
"Greens should constitute at least 70% of your meal." She advised, "Also, do not eat once it's 6 pm. Try to fast and eat in smaller portions."
In my head, I was like this is gonna be a war.
"Do not try to exercise. If you do, you will have a lot of flabby skin." She added, "Your skin type isn't the type that needs exercise. It's going to be a longer journey than when you are exercising. But just do it."
She even asked me if I drink a lot of water and I explained to her that I and water and very best of friends.
I drink water like my life depends on it. In a day, I would have drank half bag of water or more.
So, I do not joke with my water.
"That's good..." And she went about advising me on what and what to avoid.
The moment I got home, I tried to keep the advise. I bought vegetables while coming back home and used it to do a meal that would enter my mouth.
I tried not eating after 6pm but sometimes, lectures dismiss by that 6, so what could I do?
I tried taking walks as advised. But I wasn't consistent.
To get to keep the eating lifestyle that I wanted, I knew I had to work harder.
I took so many gigs, that my body began to hear it from me and I fell ill.
Even after the gigs I took, I only managed to get paid by one. Before I could actually even find my eating habits, Bills took up the rest of the money.
It's not easy. Well, I will keep trying.
