There are some people the world celebrates because they are rich, famous, or powerful. Then there are those whose names we may never know, yet they quietly become the reason someone else gets another chance at life. For me, the real heroes are the people who rush toward danger while everyone else is trying to escape.

When I watched reports about the recent earthquake in Venezuela, my heart went out not only to the families who lost loved ones and homes, but also to the rescue workers, volunteers, doctors, nurses, and humanitarian organizations that worked tirelessly to save lives. Seeing children pulled from collapsed buildings and survivors receiving food, water, and medical attention reminded me that humanity still has a compassionate side.

If I were given the opportunity, I would dedicate my efforts to supporting these heroes.

I know that saving lives comes with a heavy price. Many rescuers spend long hours without proper rest. They leave their own families behind to help complete strangers. Some risk their own safety just to give another person a chance to live. That kind of selflessness deserves more than applause. It deserves real support.

I would work to ensure they have better equipment, adequate training, and the resources they need to carry out their mission safely. A willing heart is important, but it becomes even more effective when backed by the right tools.

I would also advocate for their mental and emotional well-being. Witnessing destruction, injury, and death can leave deep emotional scars. Many rescuers carry painful memories long after the cameras are gone. They deserve access to counseling, rest, and the encouragement needed to continue their noble work without sacrificing their own health.

For those who never tire of delivering aid to survivors, I would help create stronger networks that make it easier for food, medicine, clean water, clothing, and temporary shelter to reach affected communities quickly. In times of disaster, every minute matters. Delays can mean the difference between life and death.

Children would hold a special place in my heart. Every child rescued from a disaster is a future that has been preserved. Beyond saving their lives, I would support programs that provide education, healthcare, and emotional healing so they can rebuild their confidence and dream again. A child who survives a tragedy should not have to carry the burden of that experience alone.

I also believe these everyday heroes deserve public recognition. Too often, we celebrate celebrities while overlooking the people who save lives without expecting anything in return. Their stories should be shared because they inspire others to serve humanity with courage and compassion.

The truth is, disasters remind us that life is fragile. They also remind us that kindness is one of the greatest forces on earth. Whenever people choose to help strangers in their darkest moments, they restore hope where fear once existed.

If I were ever given the opportunity, I would use my voice, my time, and every available resource to stand beside those who stand for others. They have already proven that one act of kindness can save a life. The least I can do is ensure they never have to fight alone.

In the end, I believe the measure of a society is not how it treats the powerful, but how it supports those who dedicate their lives to protecting the vulnerable. Those who save children and care for disaster survivors are not just responding to emergencies—they are keeping humanity alive.

Hay personas a las que el mundo celebra porque son ricas, famosas o poderosas. Pero también existen aquellas cuyos nombres quizá nunca conozcamos y que, sin embargo, son la razón por la que alguien tiene una segunda oportunidad de vivir. Para mí, los verdaderos héroes son quienes corren hacia el peligro mientras todos los demás intentan escapar.

Cuando vi los informes sobre el reciente terremoto en Venezuela, mi corazón estuvo no solo con las familias que perdieron a sus seres queridos y sus hogares, sino también con los rescatistas, voluntarios, médicos, enfermeros y organizaciones humanitarias que trabajaron incansablemente para salvar vidas. Ver a niños siendo rescatados de edificios derrumbados y a los sobrevivientes recibiendo alimentos, agua y atención médica me recordó que la humanidad todavía conserva un profundo sentido de compasión.

Si alguna vez tuviera la oportunidad, dedicaría mis esfuerzos a apoyar a estos héroes.

Sé que salvar vidas tiene un alto costo. Muchos rescatistas trabajan durante largas horas sin el descanso adecuado. Dejan a sus propias familias para ayudar a personas que nunca han conocido. Algunos incluso arriesgan su propia vida para darle a otra persona la oportunidad de seguir viviendo. Ese nivel de entrega merece mucho más que aplausos; merece un verdadero apoyo.

Trabajaría para asegurar que cuenten con mejores equipos, una capacitación adecuada y los recursos necesarios para desempeñar su labor de manera segura. Un corazón dispuesto es importante, pero es mucho más eficaz cuando cuenta con las herramientas adecuadas.

También defendería su bienestar mental y emocional. Ser testigo de la destrucción, las heridas y la muerte puede dejar cicatrices profundas. Muchos rescatistas cargan con recuerdos dolorosos mucho después de que las cámaras se han apagado. Ellos merecen acceso a apoyo psicológico, descanso y el ánimo necesario para continuar con su noble labor sin poner en riesgo su propia salud.

Para quienes nunca se cansan de llevar ayuda a los sobrevivientes, ayudaría a crear redes más sólidas que permitan hacer llegar rápidamente alimentos, medicinas, agua potable, ropa y refugio temporal a las comunidades afectadas. En momentos de desastre, cada minuto cuenta. Un retraso puede significar la diferencia entre la vida y la muerte.

Los niños ocuparían un lugar muy especial en mi corazón. Cada niño rescatado de una tragedia representa un futuro que ha sido preservado. Más allá de salvar sus vidas, apoyaría programas que les proporcionen educación, atención médica y acompañamiento emocional para que puedan recuperar la esperanza y volver a soñar. Un niño que sobrevive a una tragedia no debería cargar solo con el peso de esa experiencia.

También creo que estos héroes cotidianos merecen reconocimiento público. Con demasiada frecuencia celebramos a las celebridades mientras pasamos por alto a quienes salvan vidas sin esperar nada a cambio. Sus historias deben ser contadas porque inspiran a otros a servir a la humanidad con valentía y compasión.

La verdad es que los desastres nos recuerdan lo frágil que es la vida. Pero también nos recuerdan que la bondad es una de las fuerzas más poderosas del mundo. Cada vez que alguien decide ayudar a un desconocido en su momento más oscuro, devuelve la esperanza donde antes solo había miedo.

Si algún día se me diera la oportunidad, utilizaría mi voz, mi tiempo y todos los recursos a mi alcance para apoyar a quienes siempre están al lado de los demás.
