Blue Moon Belgian Wheat Ale - Review

Hello Beer Lovers

Blue Moon Belgian Wheat Ale - Rs 200 for a 500 ML Can, 3.5-5% ABV

I had the imported Blue Moon Belgian Wheat Ale in India about 3-4 years ago and truth be told I didn't turn a fanboy. Fast forward to 2021, I tried the Made in India Blue Moon Belgian Wheat Ale, and the result's the same, am still not a fanboy.

Appearance: Cloudy, Pale Golden Yellow, Decent white head. No head retention or lacing.

Aroma: Heavy on coriander and orange peel, it comes through in a disappointing soapy, oily way. You can whiff the soapy/detergent off-putting smell through out.

Taste: Heavy coriander and orange rind & Spices. Actually a bit too much emphasis on the spices. Mildly tangy (like Orange Juice). You can taste floral notes & banana like yeast rounding out the finish. I'll be honest, the taste isn't really bad but I could not miss the artificial flavours.

Mouthfeel: Low Medium carbonation. Pretty Full bodied, and the overload of orange peel and coriander just doesn't work well for me. It's too dense on the palette.

Overall: This is definitely better than a whole bunch of other wheat beers available in the market, however am still not very excited about the abrasive spices and low effervescence. This stops short of being an awesome sessionable summer quencher for me. Hoegaarden remains the best bottled wheat beer made in India for me.

On a side note am excited about the fact that more and more imported beers are being manufactured here in India now. First Hoegaarden, then Corona & now BlueMoon. I'm sure we will have a lot of choices in coming years.

Cheers
