๐Ÿ’“ Hello cinephiles! ๐Ÿ’“

I hope you are all well :)

Today we continue with the film series "Hip Hop:Documentaries between beats and politics", in its 2nd screening this time focusing on another of the elements of hip hop, rap and Mcs. With the 2012 documentary, "๐—ฆ๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐˜๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—™๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—บ ๐—ก๐—ผ๐˜๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด: ๐—ง๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—”๐—ฟ๐˜ ๐—ข๐—ณ ๐—ฅ๐—ฎ๐—ฝ", where the iconic Ice-T guides us through what was up to that moment the history of rap in the United States, interviewing other great representative figures such as Afrika Bambaataa, Dr Dre, Ice Cube, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Salt from "Salt and Pepa", and many, many others.

cubitodehielo.jpg

Many of their shots are on the streets, with images of graffiti, some ghettos, buildings.... The rappers talk about their perception of music, their beginnings, their techniques and their inspiration for writing. The production and direction are very well handled, the people in charge of these were Ice-T and Andi Baybutt. The background music, beats, scraching, all very related to the genre.

dmc.jpg

One question that left me thinking for a long time was "Why do you think rap is not as respected as blues, jazz or many other musical genres?". The answers from the celebrities interviewed were very varied, some talked about rap being very countercultural, it gives you the opportunity to talk bad about the government, the media, society in general, and for the same reason you don't want to go mainstream.

Dre.jpg

Another answer related to the above is that rap lyrics allow you to create a critical thinking, then there is a whole smear campaign in which only show videos of asses, guns, cars, vandalism.... The one that I think is more accurate (at least according to my point of view) is that in rap there has always been rivalry, rappers do not respect each other, they look for ways to shoot their own partners, contrary to most musical genres where musicians support, congratulate and admire each other. What do you think? What do you think could be the reason?

oscuridad.jpg

For my part I think that in hip hop culture in general there is a lot of beef, graffiti artists covering each other's graffiti for any reason that "rivals" them, the rap battles where it's about each rapper throwing at the other for a certain amount of time and the one who offends the most is the winner, etc. And I don't think this will change. Rap is only respected by the people who consume it and feel represented and identified, and that's fine.

snoop.jpg

Talking about the sources of inspiration or in which moments they write it was very curious when one commented that he wrote when he was hungry(later in the forum we found out that he was a Peruvian rapper wow!), then he said that when he arrived with full energy from working out was also a good time. Snoop Dogg said he needed to smoke a lot of weed, have women around him and background beats to get inspired.... Basically, with his answers in the docu he achieved the unthinkable, he made himself even more unpleasant than before xd

final.jpg

At the end of the screening we went to the conversation, this time the guest was "Street", a rapper from Lima, who answered from his point of view the same questions that were asked to the rappers in the docu, it was very interesting the talk, he said that much of his influence comes from Spanish rappers. And he talked about representing your reality before anything else, rapping about what you know.

Another highly recommended docu if you are interested in the genre, we will continue next week with the next one about graffiti, I can't wait! ๐Ÿ’ž Hugs, kisses, drink water and brush your teeth!

Con el documental del 2012, "๐—ฆ๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐˜๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—™๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—บ ๐—ก๐—ผ๐˜๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด: ๐—ง๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—”๐—ฟ๐˜ ๐—ข๐—ณ ๐—ฅ๐—ฎ๐—ฝ", donde el icรณnico Ice-T nos guรญa por lo que fue hasta ese momento la historia del rap en Estados Unidos, entrevistando a otras grandes figuras representativas como Afrika Bambaataa, Dr Dre, Ice Cube, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Salt de "Salt and Pepa", y muchรญsimos otros.

cubitodehielo.jpg

ยฟUstedes quรฉ piensan? ยฟCuรกl creen que podrรญa ser la razรณn?

oscuridad.jpg
