Statue routines

In Havana, the statues carry on with their statue routines, and the Peugeots… well, them too.

She asked about lost illusions. I said no—they’re not lost, only gathering themselves back together.

“Hive will shine again,” she whispered, pointing at my T-shirt.

Lyrics

“Oh, of course,” I said, smiling faintly. “Next time, coffee’s on me.”

Cecilia Valdés is the protagonist of the eponymous novel written by Cirilo Villaverde, considered one of the most important works of 19th-century Cuban literature. Her character embodies the racial, social, and gender tensions of colonial slaveholding Cuba.

Remember, this initiative will remain open indefinitely. Feel free to join in…

The idea is to create a story—fictional, real, imagined, or even unfolding as you write it, it doesn’t matter. It can be in any literary genre, using music as a wildcard or as a bridge, or music as the protagonist, the background… it’s up to you. The only condition is that you use your own photos, taken in real places.
