Mobile phone screen replacement Xiaomi Redmi 9A. Step by Step / Cambio de pantalla móvil Xiaomi Redmi 9A. Paso a Paso.

Good morning, Geek Zone community and the rest of Hive.

Today we bring you one of the repairs we carried out yesterday at the workshop. In this case, the screen replacement of a Xiaomi.

We are going to explain our procedure in detail. Always the first thing we do is identify what exact phone model it is; in our case, it is a Xiaomi Redmi 9A. That model is unmistakable; with years of experience, one learns to identify many mobile phones visually. Anyway, if there is any doubt, we look for it on the back cover, or by the IMEI and then check the web to find the model.

In this case, it is evident that the screen is damaged due to its physical appearance, cracks, and the way it displays. But that is not always the case; sometimes, without the display being physically damaged, a mobile phone may stop showing an image, so then it is time to diagnose whether it is a failure of the display itself or a failure of the LCD circuit on the board.

Well, let's go step-by-step through our display replacement:

1-We open the device, disconnect the battery and the connectors of the damaged display, which in this case are two: one that goes to the sub-board and the other that goes to the main board. Although they come implicitly on the screen, both flex cables communicate, because in addition to the lines related to the display, there are the lines that communicate the microphone, the data lines for PC connection, the speaker, and the phone's charging lines. All of this, which is located on the sub-board, communicates with the main board through these connectors.

2- Once everything is disconnected, we place the device horizontally and begin to apply heat, about 200 degrees for about 25 to 30 seconds. It can be done with a heat plate or a heat gun; in our case, we will use the second option. With this, we slightly loosen the glue of the screen we are going to remove.

3- Now we will proceed to remove the display. To do this, we insert a very thin scalpel between the frame and the edge of the display at one of the corners, make a small upward lever action until a small part of the screen lifts up, then, without releasing it, through the lifted edge we quickly insert an X-ray sheet or any thin lamina. We apply a small portion of isopropyl alcohol right through there to finish loosening the glue, and then we slide the card along the edges until we completely remove the display.

4- Now it's time to clean the entire frame where the display rests, since when removing an old one, remnants of glue or glass remain if the removed screen is splintered, as is our case.

5- We will next test our new display, but first we will do it loosely, without gluing it. We connect the flex cables to the sub-board and the main board, and turn on our mobile phone. So far everything is going well, it displays an image; it's time to wait and, once fully turned on, we begin to test the rest of the functions associated with the screen to verify that there is no failure. We test the touch by opening applications, the settings for about five minutes, maximizing and minimizing the brightness. We let it go to sleep and activate the power button again. We leave it for 15 or 20 minutes without touching it and repeat this cycle. Since everything is going well, we then continue to the next step.

6- Gluing the screen. To do this, we remove the display that was placed loosely. Since it got the green light from our test, we will then apply the glue over the edges of the frame, very carefully so that it is not in excess nor falls into the center where the screen rests. Nor can we apply glue over the upper area where the proximity sensor and the earpiece grille are located. For this process, a special glue is used (B-7000, T-8000, or other variants); any type of glue that crystallizes must never be applied. Once the process is complete, we place the screen, connect the flex cables, and use clamps that exert minimal pressure on the screen and the frame.

7- Final test. After gluing the screen, we turn on the mobile phone again and repeat the process of testing the associated aspects. In this case, everything is fine. We have succeeded in the screen replacement. Now it only remains to wait two to three hours for the glue to dry completely, assemble the device, and deliver it to the customer.

Up to this point is the screen replacement process for this device. Thanks to the readers for following this work. All images are my own and from the actual LCD substitution process.
