Tomato rescue
Our tomato beds have been going off in the late Summer. A few weeks ago we had a storm. It was quite wild and windy. The strings for trellis we set up early in the Summer snapped and everything came tumbling down.
Tomato disaster
Mission tomato rescue was required. The hardest part was deciding where to start as it was an absolute jungle. The correct decision was made to start again with the string. For each plant in the main tomato bed, we secured the main stem to either the side of the trellis or some spare stakes we had left around for the middle. The string was only used to support all of the sub-stems and eventually we managed to get all the plants (including the fruit) off the ground. There was a lot of fallen fruit, most of which were unripe so they are currently ripening on our kitchen windowsill.
Tomato rescue
Next Summer we’ll definitely make sure to use some other form of string or rope. The trellis design is still to be confirmed.
Harvest
We’re harvesting several times a week now. The cherry tomatoes taste amazing. Any ideas for tomato recipes welcome. Thanks for reading. Happy gardening.
