When silence wins the battle.
Arguments are a strange companion in the journey of life. The deeper the relationship, the easier it is to argue. Sometimes it is a disagreement with parents, sometimes anger and resentment with a loved one, and sometimes it becomes a heated argument with an office colleague or a complete stranger you meet on the street.
Talking about my own life—I used to be very emotional. Whenever someone contradicted my words, I would get upset, sometimes I would shout, sometimes there would be a distance in the relationship. But time has taught me—happiness does not come from winning every argument. Sometimes staying silent, sometimes saying sorry, sometimes passing the matter by with a smile—these are actually the reflections of true understanding.
When I have an argument, I first ask myself—is this argument really necessary? Is it just for ego? Or am I not trying to understand the other person's feelings? If I see that the situation is heated, then I keep quiet for a while. Because words spoken in anger often create wounds that cannot be erased even by apologizing.
There have also been times when I have remained silent and the other party thinks that I have lost. But I know that I have won the relationship. Many times, the issue of the argument itself becomes unimportant the next day, and then I think—“Why did I need to say so much!”
However, staying silent is not always the solution. It is necessary to present one's position logically against any injustice, disrespect, or untruth. Then I speak calmly, try to explain with logic, so that the other person understands that I am not against him, but that we are both in the solution to the problem.
In my experience, when one person comes forward after an argument and says—“Come on, there was a misunderstanding, forgive me”—then the relationship becomes stronger. The most beautiful moments in life come through understanding, and the deepest relationships are built from small situations where we let our egos win and love wins.
Finally, peace is very difficult to find in today's busy life. And if you want to bring that peace within yourself, you need to believe in understanding, not in arguments.
