A Nowruz Stroll Through Tajrish Bazaar

A few days before Nowruz (the Persian New Year), I took a trip to Tajrish Bazaar, one of the oldest and most vibrant markets in Tehran. If you've never been here, imagine a place buzzing with energy, packed with colors, scents, and the sounds of people getting ready to welcome the new year.

The market was full to the brim with shoppers. People were picking out nuts and sweets, choosing the freshest Sabzeh (sprouted greens for the Nowruz table), and checking out rows of goldfish swimming in glass bowls. Vendors were calling out to customers with big smiles, selling everything from dried fruits and Samanu (a sweet wheat pudding) to Senjed (oleaster fruit). The smell of spices and pickles filled the air—it was impossible not to stop and take it all in.

I stood for a moment next to an old man carefully weighing apples on his vintage scale, just watching the scene. A little kid was glued to the fish tanks, trying to pick the most energetic one. A mom was picking out the shiniest, most colorful painted eggs for the Nowruz table. And a group of young people was haggling hard to get the best deal on holiday treats—because, you know, bargaining is part of the fun!
