A Special Encounter with a Butterfly

Last night, while I was eating outside our house, an adorable butterfly suddenly approached me and kept circling around. Curious, I decided to touch it. To my surprise, it was incredibly calm and obedient. I couldn't help but wonder why a butterfly was out at night when they were supposed to be resting.

Amazed by its beauty, I took a picture of it and stared at it for a while, admiring its delicate features. A few minutes later, I became curious about what kind of butterfly it was.

I discovered that it was a Banana Skipper, a species belonging to the family Hesperiidae. This butterfly is commonly found in India, Southeast Asia, and Papua New Guinea. Considering how far its origin is, I felt lucky that we have this species in the Philippines.

As I observed the butterfly, it kept crawling on my arm and hand before stopping for a moment. When I touched it again, it flew away—but to my surprise, it came back and even landed on my knee. I let it stay there until I finished eating.

Later on, I sent the pictures to my mother to hear her thoughts. She was just as shocked as I was and told me not to disturb it. She also mentioned an old belief from our great-grandparents, saying that maybe a spirit was trying to send regards to me. Although it's just a superstition, I found it interesting.

Regardless of beliefs, this butterfly reminded me that every creature has a purpose. Even if some may find it unusual or a bit scary, it plays a vital role in preserving nature and adding beauty to our environment.
