Having a good hand-on knowledge and experience in farming is saving us lot of time and lots of hard labour we are meant to engage in. For instance by learning to apply herbicides before planting crops we are able to contain the execcessive growth of grasses that often bother crops. It reduces the labour of having to weed grasses from thesame farm multiple times.

This is the growth ratwe and stages of growth of our salad now. This week was the week we have planned to transplant the lettuce from the nursery into the main farm. The cultivation of the land for the planting of the lettuce has now fully being completed. Lettuce are such a fragile crops and needs a lot of water before they can be transplanted hence we gave it adequate time to spend growing in the nursery while equally hoping that rain will at least fall on the cultivated land before the transplanting can commence.

At this stage of growth they are now ready for transplanting and that will happen before the week runs out. The rains have taken a break from falling for about a week now and if that will distrupt any other activities we won't want it to affect the growth of our lettuce. These have to be planted in good time so that harvest can also happen in good time.

Moving on we checked on the groundnuts and noticed that they are already in their second stages of flower productuon as well. We are all relieved this year that some of these farming practices we have engaged in are very much helpful.

One of them is the choice we made to apply some herbicides before planting these groundnuts. If you look through the farm well you will. See that grasses are only just begining to come out now which haven't grown to the stage which it can bother the groundnuts this is because we have applied some herbicides to the cultivated farms before planting the groundnuts.

By so doing when the groundnuts germinated there were no grasses germinating alongside the sides and we won't be engaging in any form of weeding exercise for the earlier growth stages of the nuts.

Up until this stage of growth there are not much grasses to bother the crops yet. We will be engaging in manual weeding soon but that is not yet a priority as we have other activities in mind. The weeding exercise here will be done once rather that twice or three times that we often carry out the exercise if we don't deploy the use of a herbicide.

Next we are expecting of the groundnuts will be the production of the nuts in the roots. At this stage they have spent over 2months in the farm after being planted and once we are able to weed the grasses once they won't have any challenge producing good foods.

For now everything is looking like we are a little less busy but we are waiting for a downpour to start with transplanting rice, sorghum and any other crops left to be planted.
