Resisting Or Adapting?
Sometimes life has a way of putting us in a situation where we either learn to adapt or walk away. A situation whereby the working environment is very toxic but the salary is mouth watering, would you adapt or resist? A moment like this can be challenging. You are faced with a choice to resist what is happening or adapt to the new system.
Resisting is not always a bad thing. There are some times when standing your ground is necessary. If something goes against your believe or your values, then resisting can be the only choice.
I remember my experience in my former place of work. It came to a point where toxicity of the new boss then was affecting almost everyone's mental health, and gradually people started quitting without prior notice. I tried to adjust to the new system but it got to a point where I could no longer hold on, i had to also walk away.
Resistance does not only protect one's peace, it also protects character and help a person stay true to themselves.
However, adapting does not always mean accepting a defeat. Life is full of changes that can not be controlled and somehow, adaptation is also important depending on the situation. Imagine a person losing the job they loved, They may fill frustrated at the beginning, but by learning a new skill or exploring new opportunities, they learn to adapt to the situation and keep moving.
Many people have been in a situation where they found themselves at the middle of the two. The moment they try to resist change they realize that it's beyond their control. At the same time, they have been in a situation where giving up is not the best choice. It depends on the situation one find themselves.
The people who often cope best with life difficulties are not the ones who resist or the ones who adapts. They're the ones who know when to do each. Some situations requires resistance while some require flexibility but knowing when to do each is necessary.
At the end both resisted or adapting are important. They work together. One helps us to stay true to ourselves and the other helps us to survive and grow in a difficult situation , the most important thing is knowing when to walk away and when to adjust, because both of them are necessary for a meaningful balanced life.
