Hygiene yes, but without exaggeration
Observing the right hygiene measure is crucial so that the baby does not become ill during the first few months of life, but at the same time is in contact with a sufficient number of bacteria to develop a strong immune system.
In the first three months of its existence, the child still enjoys the so-called post-natal immunity, i.e. protection from the most innocuous pathogens through maternal antibodies. Therefore, in theory, it is protected from colds and other similar disorders. Nevertheless, with regard to hygiene, some precautions must be observed.
Fundamental points
Touch your child only with clean hands.
• Gently cured any skin irritations, such as the reddened skin, with appropriate ointments.
• Cooled people should avoid picking up the baby.
• Ventilate the child's room regularly; in the warm rooms with stale air, the ideal conditions for bacteria and viruses are created.
• Change the towels and bed linens on a regular basis
Hygiene during lactation
• Carefully wash your hands before attaching the baby to prevent the pathogenic bacteria from being transmitted to the nipples or directly to the infant's mouth.
• It is not necessary to wash the breast especially before breast-feeding; just rinse it once a day under running water. Avoid all products that could dry your breasts, such as shower gels, soaps, and disinfectants.
• In the case of inflamed nipples use only creams based on neutral ph. Give up deodorants, perfumes or body creams with a strong fragrance.
• After breastfeeding, let the remaining mother's milk dry on the teats, since its fat content prevents nipple wounds, ensuring that they remain elastic and soft.
• If you observe a change in the color of the skin of the breast or of the mouth or the contour of the baby's mouth, inform your doctor immediately.
• In case of strong milk flow, the absorbed cups help to absorb excess milk. While the skin is very dry or irritated, small amounts of pure lanolin may be applied to treat the injured and dry nipples.
