Battle Chasers #2
Issue #1 - The first issue review and explanation of what I'm doing here.
Hopefully you checked out the first issue (see link above.) This will continue that. Spoilers ahead!
The story so far: We have met the cast, Knolan, Gully, Calibretto, Garrison, and Red Monika. Gully ran from a group of Lycelots and found Bretto and Knolan. They were after Aramus' Gauntlets. Aramus is Gully's Father. Red Monika attempted to recruit Garrison as muscle for a prison break. He refused and just kept getting drunk.
This issue begins with two soldiers riding toward Garrison's home. We get a bit more info on Garrison here. He is a legendary swordsman. Perhaps the greatest swordsman that ever lived. However, his wife (or wife to-be) was killed on their wedding day. This explains why he's a drunk now. One of the solders was his apprentice and came to deliver the news of the attack on Gully. It is then obvious that Garrison and Aramus were close friends.
Meanwhile, Knolan hops on his nimbus cloud to pick some things up at the market. Soon after Calibretto is ambushed by a new kind of monster called Grinners. While he is out the Lycelot finds Gully who has no choice but to put on the gauntlets.
With this new power she successfully defends herself beating the Lycelot (possibly to death.) Calibretto is able to calm her down and get her to stop.
While this is going on we're introduced to a short lived character named Raimon that talks about how the mana pools are becoming scarce. The mana is what powers their technology (and magic) so whomever controls these mana pools holds all the power. He is also delivered a gift, which turns out to be a murderous doll which kills Raimon.
We then get a glimpse of the baddie. Who kind of resembles the first page of the first issue and then clearly also has a connection to Knolan.
Knolan arriving home to a destroyed house is furious. At first at least. Calibretto explains. Knolan calms down. Gully is afraid he is going to kick her out but he tells her she can stay as long as she'd like.
The last few pages brings us back to Red Monika.
Her team has arrived at Skyhold. Not a lot to say here except things are about to get interesting!
This brings us to the end of another issue. This issue is more of the same. We get a bit more background and world building. Some great action involving Gully. More antagonists are shown. And the big prison break is teased.
The art is top notch as usual. Love the characters but that last page is also quite beautiful. The floating prison and clouds make for a great setup for the next issue, which we can assume will be heavily focused on Red Monika and her prison break.
To Be Continued!
