Here's a short write-up for your community:
Cruising the Potash Road – Moab's Quiet Side
Just a few minutes north of downtown Moab, Highway 279 slips away from the crowds and follows the Colorado River into a deepening sandstone canyon known locally as "Wall Street." Towering red cliffs rise straight up on one side while the river winds calmly on the other, creating one of the most photogenic drives in the entire region — and one you can do entirely from behind the wheel.
Along the way, keep an eye out for ancient petroglyphs carved high into the rock face, tucked-away dinosaur tracks, and rock climbers scaling the sheer walls above the road.
The drive also passes striking formations like Jug Handle Arch, standing right beside the pavement. The paved section runs about 17 miles before ending at the Potash Boat Ramp, where the river bends and the canyon opens up one last time before the road turns to dirt. It's a short, easy escape that packs in geology, history, and scenery without ever having to leave the car except for Photos.
