My Best Financial Decision Started Small but Grew Big

Now, that's a question that feels too direct to someone who have had way too many financial mistakes. But I think it makes it easier to remember the one best decisions I've made financially that had a positive impact in my life.

Before I'll share that one best decision, I'd like to start from the fact that I've made a lot of mistakes with my money right from the time I was a teen to my adulthood. Even as a child, I think I spent way too much for my sweet tooth.

Growing up, I had little to no guide on how to manage the money I have or save for a good purpose. The very few times I saved growing up was to buy what I'll call "wants", not needs. Even though I grew older, I honestly didn't do better.

Until some months ago when I took my finances more seriously and things started to change first from my mindset to how I handle the little amounts I have from day to day. But I've had to spend money on the wrong skills and interests.

My best financial decision is one small step I took at the beginning of the year in attempt to save money through the whole year. It felt small when I decided but it began to feel big and beyond me as I progressed with the saving plan.

Every amount I save for my target made me feel so good and assured about what's coming, it did more for my mindset than I had thought of when I decided to do it. It's my best financial decision because I am not doing it for anyone but myself.

Even though I may use some of it for others when I meet my target, I'm doing it for myself because of how it makes me feel, reminding that I can do anything so long I put my mind to it. It's a little funny that I don't have a "why" for the move yet.

But right now, I am focused on doing what I have said I will do with my finances this year and that is understanding money to improve my mindset towards it, saving and being careful with how I manage the little I have to avoid more mistakes.

I am still learning my lessons in this decision I made but one obvious lesson I've learned and I really appreciate is, living below my means and buying just what I need most of the time. It hasn't been quite easy but I'm doing it and will continue.
