In Wicker Park
This red brick single family home is located in the historic Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois.
It was built in 1888 for German immigrant furniture manufacturer Hermann Weinhardt, The intricate Bavarian "gingerbread" style wood detailing, colorful paint palette, and decorative gables were included on the home to evoke the traditional architecture of Weinhardt's native Germany.
Features of the home that I love are the multi-tiered balconies, carved brackets, decorative spindlework, arched gables, and the distinctive red brick with yellow and teal painted woodwork.
Hermann Weinhardt was a furniture manufacturer and his mansion showcases the intricate wood-carving and craftsmanship associated with his furniture creations.
Trim work around the glass panel doors demonstrate the custom woodwork commissioned by Weinhardt for his residence. The transom windows are leaded glass and there is even a brass chandelier for outdoor lighting.
There are so many amazing old homes in this Chicago neighborhood.
