My daughter intends to backpack as much of the 1200 mile long Ice Age Trail in Wisconsin as she can. Right now her job cuts into her hiking time, so she is doing the IAT in overnight segments.

Map from Wikipedia

The trail traces the edge of the glacier from the last Ice Age (roughly 12,000 years ago), through prairies and forests. Much of this recently hiked section of trail in Waukesha County was across prairie lands.

This 12 spotted skimmer was found perching on a tall weed near a slow-moving stream. They are aerial hunters, and eat mosquitoes, gnats, and other small flying insects.

Footbridge through this marshy area was an opportunity to see plenty of frogs!

Solo camping.
In two days of hiking she said she only saw one other person on the trail. He was going the opposite direction, they nodded at each other and both went on their way enjoying the peaceful solitude of a weekday on the IAT.
