Ancient church by the river
Hi everybody!
On October 14, Orthodox Christians had a holiday - the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos.
This holiday was based on the events that took place in 910 in Constantinople. I think it makes no sense to retell this story - those who wish can read the history of the holiday on Wikipedia.
But I want to show some photos of the very first temple built in honor of this holiday - Intercession on the Nerl.
In Russia, the holiday entered the church charter in the 12th century by order of Prince Andrei Bogolyubsky.
Then, in the 12th century, this temple was built on the banks of the Nerl River, which perfectly fit into the landscape.
It is called "Poem in stone" because it is so beautiful. On the information stand near the church it was written: "He who has seen this white-stone poem of ancient times, can no longer say that there were no happy moments in his life."
I really wanted to show these photos and wish everyone happiness!
