Coming to this community is something I've loved from the very first moment. Because with black and white, every image goes straight to what we truly want to say. We remove color — and with it, the noise it can sometimes bring to a photograph — focusing instead on what we truly wish to see.
That's why I decided to share this portrait series with you today 🤩

This photos are my entry for the #monomad contest by @brumest and @monochromes

What captivated me most during this session was that I wasn't just photographing hairstyles, I was photographing a declaration.

For a long time, Afro hair was forced to be "tamed" or "modified." And even today, it is still sometimes judged with the label "pelo malo" — "bad hair." These portraits aim to show that you don't need permission to wear your hair the way you want. It's an expression of pride without demanding lengthy explanations. "This is who I am, and this is what you'll see." 💪🏾

Mixed with accessories in some images, each model invites you — through their pose or their gaze — to realize that there's no need to fit in.

Llegar a esta comunidad es algo que me ha encantado desde el primer momento. Y es que con el blanco y negro en cada imagen se va directo a lo que queremos. Eliminamos el color y con él, el ruido que a veces puede crearnos en una imagen, enfocándonos así en lo que deseamos ver.
Es por eso que decidí hoy compartirles esta serie de retratos 🤩

Lo que más me capturó en esta sesión fue que estaba fotografiando más que el estilo del cabello, estaba fotografiando una declaración.

Durante mucho tiempo el cabello afro fue obligado a ser "modificado", aunque aún hoy siga siendo en ocasiones juzgado con el término "pelo malo". En estos retratos se trata de mostrar que no hay que pedir permiso para llevar el cabello como quieren. Es una muestra de orgullo sin dar tantas explicaciones. "Esto es lo que soy y es lo que verás" 💪🏾

Mezclado en algunas imágenes con accesorios, cada modelo te invita con su pose o su mirada a convencerte de que no hay necesidad de encajar.
