Sunset on the Mojave Road
Sunset image from our exploration of Afton Canyon last week. The Mojave Road disappears into the canyon...
The Mojave Road is one of the early routes that brought pioneers to California. IT was only in use for a short time before th railways provided an easier (and safer) route. The route is somewhat unique because it did not evolve into a modern highway, and can be found in much the same condition pioneers would have found it in the 1860's. The route is largely determined by the available watering holes that can be found along it at 20-30 mile intervals (about a days drive by horse and wagon in this terrain).
