The Shackleton. Light Painting A Old Bomber.

This is an older shot of mine from an arranged visit to the Gatwick Aviation Museum.

There was so much to light-paint at this place and we were very lucky to have been given entry, once we had shot the obligatory ‘whole’ plane shots, we headed over to the Shackleton Bomber which was parked up.

The Avro Shackleton is a British long-range maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) used by the Royal Air Force (RAF) and the South African Air Force (SAAF). It was developed by Avro from the Avro Lincoln bomber, which itself had been a development of the famous wartime Avro Lancaster bomber, it saw service with the RAF from 1958 to 1991.

We set up underneath the bomb bays and I asked Phil to model, and used a friends DWL to draw the pattern by each bomb bay door and popped a strobe behind Phil to create the long shadows on his legs.

I used a Pink/Red white balance to add to the otherworldly feel on this, and as well as capturing some lovely night shots of these old majestic planes I also managed to get something a bit different as a reminder, fun times :)
