“We Walk Past Art Without Seeing It / Caminamos sin ver el arte” [Eng/Spa]

Sometimes we walk past art as if it were just part of the scenery… without stopping, without really seeing. We pass by sculptures, paintings, stories carved in stone or brushstrokes, and continue on as if nothing happened. I realized this during my visit to the Fine Arts Museum in Havana, Cuba.

I remember standing in front of a powerful sculpture, almost alive, where the figures seemed frozen in an eternal moment. While some visitors quickly took pictures and moved on, I chose to stay. To observe. To feel. And that’s when something shifted.

Art doesn’t demand attention… but it deserves it.

We’ve become used to fast consumption: images, videos, experiences. But art isn’t meant to be consumed, it’s meant to be contemplated. It’s a silent dialogue between the creator and the observer. And when you choose to listen, even for a moment, you discover emotions you didn’t know were there.

That day I understood it’s not about seeing art, but about allowing art to see you.

Maybe next time you walk past a piece of art, you’ll pause a little longer. Not out of obligation, but curiosity. Because in that small moment, there might be an unexpected connection.

A veces caminamos frente al arte como si fuera parte del paisaje… sin detenernos, sin mirar realmente. Pasamos al lado de esculturas, pinturas, historias talladas en piedra o pinceladas, y seguimos nuestro camino como si nada. Me di cuenta de eso durante mi visita al Museo de Bellas Artes en La Habana, Cuba.

Recuerdo estar frente a una escultura imponente, casi viva, donde las figuras parecían atrapadas en un instante eterno. Mientras algunos turistas tomaban fotos rápidas y seguían, yo decidí quedarme. Observar. Sentir. Y fue ahí cuando algo cambió.

El arte no exige atención… pero la merece.

Nos hemos acostumbrado a consumir rápido: imágenes, videos, experiencias. Pero el arte no es para consumir, es para contemplar. Es un diálogo silencioso entre quien crea y quien observa. Y cuando decides escuchar, aunque sea por un momento, descubres emociones que no sabías que estaban ahí.

Ese día entendí que no se trata de ver arte, sino de permitir que el arte te vea a ti.

Quizás la próxima vez que pases frente a una obra, te detengas un poco más. No por obligación, sino por curiosidad. Porque en ese pequeño gesto, puede haber una conexión inesperada.
