🇫🇷 Avec des noms pareils comme "Boa Vista", et "Ponta do sol", nul doute que je me dirigeais tout droit vers des lieux riches en lumière! Le nord de l'île de Boa Vista au Cap-Vert a été classé patrimoine naturel par les autorités. Il s'étend du nord de la ville de Sal Rei jusqu'au littoral nord et inclus également une bande de 300m de mer. Le tout pour une étendue de près de 800 hectares. Les raisons de sa protection viennent de présence d'oiseaux particuliers, dont le paille-en-queue, le balbuzard pêcheur, la présence de dunes où de nombreux fossiles sont enterrés, des zones de paysages volcaniques ou encore de la simple volonté de protéger cette zone de toutes constructions urbaines. Bref en d'autres mots, il y a pas mal de place pour marcher tranquille sans rencontrer personne ou presque, et c'est ce que j'ai fait !

🇬🇧 With such names as "Boa Vista", and "Ponta do sol", no doubt that I was heading straight to places rich in light! The north of the island of Boa Vista in Cape Verde has been classified as natural heritage by the authorities. It extends from the north of the city of Sal Rei to the northern coastline and also includes a strip of 300m of sea. All this for an area of nearly 800 hectares. The reasons for its protection come from the presence of particular birds, including the straw-tail, the osprey, the presence of dunes where many fossils are buried, areas of volcanic landscapes or even the simple desire to protect this area from all urban constructions. In short, in other words, there is quite a bit of room to walk quietly without meeting anyone or almost, and that’s what I did!

🇫🇷 La route commence à la sortie de la ville sur une zone nommé Cabral, du nom du révolutionnaire emblématique du pays. Une première partie pour se défaire des derniers bâtiments de location touristique, pour un chemin pour longer la montagne carrée en direction de l'église Sainte Fatima. A partir de là, le paysage devient totalement désertique. Des cailloux, du sable, des cailloux et du sable. Le chemin arrive dans la baie de Teodora où je suis surpris de retrouver deux jeunes surfeurs s'entrainer dans les vagues. Ces deux jeunes font partie des nombreux Cap-Verdiens capables de faire à peu près tout et n'importe quoi avec une tout type de planche. Kite, surf, foil, tout leur va. Ils sont désormais sponsorisés par une marque de matériel de surf et se sont fait livrer un scooter de mer par la marque, ce qui leur permet d'assurer leur sécurité et d'accéder à davantage de zones de glisse. Aujourd'hui ils sont en surf-foil. L'un sur le scooter, l'autre tracté, attendant la bonne vague et glissant en réalisant des figures que je ne comprends pas toujours ! Ils intervertiront leur rôle, et font ça à peu près tous les jours que la météo leur donne des conditions de glisse. Le rêve du surfeur !

🇬🇧 The road begins at the exit of the city in an area named Cabral, named after the country’s emblematic revolutionary. First part to get rid of the last tourist rental buildings, for a path along the square mountain towards the Church of Saint Fatima. From there, the landscape becomes completely desert. Stones, sand, pebbles and sand. The path arrives in the bay of Teodora where I am surprised to find two young surfers training in the waves. These two young people are part of the many Cape Verdeans capable of doing almost anything and everything with any type of board. Kite, surf, foil, everything goes to them. They are now sponsored by a brand of surfing equipment and have had a sea scooter delivered by the brand, which allows them to ensure their safety and access more gliding areas. Today they are in surf-foil. One on the scooter, the other towed, waiting for the right wave and sliding while performing tricks that I don’t always understand! They will switch roles, and do this almost every day when the weather gives them gliding conditions. The surfer’s dream!

🇫🇷 Après les avoir photographiés au téléobjectif puis au drone, je les laisse à leurs vagues et repars sur mon chemin. je rejoins les 3 éoliennes de la côte nord en me demandant pour quoi un pays si riche en vent et en soleil a encore besoin d'acheter du diesel pour faire tourner des génératrices...? Cela reste un mystère pour moi. L'électricité devrait être gratuite pour tous les habitants du pays ici... Je passe en contre bas du point "culminant" du massif... 146m... Mais préfère m'économiser et me contenter des 117m du phare situé à la pointe !! Une demie-heure plus tard, je me trouve au nord de l'île avec un paysage à 360° et 20 noeuds de vent dans la figure !

I join the 3 wind turbines on the north coast wondering why a country so rich in wind and sun still needs to buy diesel to run generators...? It remains a mystery for me. Electricity should be free for all the inhabitants of the country here... I go against the bottom of the 'highest' point of the massif... 146m... But prefer to save myself and settle for 117m from the lighthouse located at the tip!! Half an hour later, I find myself in the north of the island with a landscape at 360° and 20 knots of wind in the face!

🇫🇷 La vue est superbe, à l'Est une grande plage menant à la zone de Spinguera, l'épave du Santa Maria continuant son usure en silence, au Nord l'île de Sal pointant à l'horizon, les dunes de fossiles à l'ouest et le massif de Ponta Do Sol au Sud avec l'îlot de Djeu dans le fond. Les "coulées" de sable en contre bas donnent envie de descendre, mais ce sera pour une prochaine fois avec peut-être une truelle pour fouiller quelques fossiles...! Je fais décoller le drone pour une dernière photo souvenir et il est temps de repartir par le même chemin.

🇬🇧 The view is superb, to the east a large beach leading to the area of Spinguera, the wreck of Santa Maria continuing its wear in silence, to the north the island of Sal pointing at the horizon, the fossil dunes to the west and the massif of Ponta Do Sol to the south with the islet of Djeu in the background. The "flows" of sand in the lower part make you want to go down, but it will be for next time with maybe a trowel to excavate some fossils...! I take off the drone for one last souvenir photo and it’s time to leave again by the same path.
