Why should I be interested in this microphone?

When it comes down to purchasing the correct microphone, it depends on what you intend on using it for. For a long time, condenser microphones were really expensive and out of reach for upcoming and aspiring creators. The MXL 990 is a condenser microphone, created for musicians and creators inside of a home studio. It's world class engineering and manufacturing have allowed the microphone to retain high-quality studio performance, while at a much more affordable rate.

What requirements do I need to run the MXL 990?

The MXL 990 does require phantom power. This means that it require power to run from a source, and through the XLR cord that the microphone is connected to for it to power on. This can be achieved by having a phantom power supply, the input being the MXL 990 microphone, and output being the power source(audio interface). A power supply is not needed though, if you chose to use an audio interface like the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2(Figure below). This is what I use.

Usability - How does the MXL 990 Sound?

I could continue this blog post without a single audio or video attachment, but what kind of review would that be? At the bottom of this post, I have embedded a couple of videos that will give you a better understand of how the MXL 990 sounds in action. Keep in mind the MXL 990 is a mono mic, so if you are using a software that is recording in stereo, make sure to swap it to mono. If you do not swap it, the program will record both left and right channels, while the MXL 990 will only output sound to one channel.
