First real test: painting on slate
Going on after yesterday's post, today I decided to try out painting on slate.
I used one layer of gesso as a primer and set out some lines with pencil.
Then I mixed the colors I wanted to use and started painting. With my mom's obituary card as inspiration on the side.
I finished it off with one layer of varnish, as this one is for indoor use.
It's certainly possible to do it this way, although the painted slate for my mom's grave will need more layers of varnish.
Also, I want to draw what I plan to paint beforehand, so that I can keep the gesso to a minimum and keep some of the natural slate color visible.
For now, great test. Looking forward to the next step: planning which flowers to paint and sketch that (a bunch of times) untill I'm satisfied.
