Palm Leaf Craftmanship

Today I share with you my reader, what is palm leaf craftsmanship. Famous in the Mixtec area, this work is not only decorative but also very useful for the communities that use it. Creating hats to protect themselves from the sun when working on the land, tenate to keep their tortillas and petates to lie down on the ground, are 3 examples that I give of what can be done with the palm leaf.
It was in Santa María Apazco where we came to know this work:

It is really impressive to see how they have learned this technique from generation to generation, just by seeing and a few words they bring in their genes the knowledge of how to work the palm leaf. From necessity so many years ago, this wisdom was born and if you look closely you can find geometric patterns, as perfect as the uniqueness of a flower. Now women are innovating their pieces by turning the palm leaf into napkins, animals, handbags, vases and caps! I like this creativity and search for new things, that always inspires me to keep working.
