The Hands That Raised Us : RealTalk Prompt 5
Hello Hive World, this is @mairaj.ansari from Karachi, Pakistan.
First of all, hats off to @therealtalkk for giving such a beautiful prompt.
So, today’s topic is parents and the rights they have over us. Honestly, what can I even say? At the end of the day, parents are those unique people in this world who take care of you, nurture you, and raise you from the moment you can’t do anything for yourself, when you couldn’t eat, drink, or even fulfill the most basic needs of life on your own.
It sounds simple when you say it, but the reality only hits many people once they stand in a position where they have to raise a child themselves. It all seems easy until you actually go through it in practice. That’s just the basics. If we go a little deeper, things open up even more. Let’s step back into childhood, those years when we didn’t really know what was good for us. We weren’t even in school yet. But there was always the mother, like a teacher right beside us, teaching us manners, showing us how to live. As we grew older, she taught us how to walk, talk, and deal with people, basically everything. And the father? He spent his entire day working just to provide for the household and fulfill the family’s needs. At least in our society, that’s the drill: both mother and father playing their part, together shaping a child into someone capable of managing their own family one day.
Now, if I talk about myself personally, for me, whatever positive traits I see within myself, I feel they are a gift from my parents. Even the strictness I didn’t like at that time, now that I am a father of two, whenever I notice something good in myself, I can trace it back to their lessons or even their discipline.
Islam, in particular, emphasizes the best treatment towards parents. The Qur’an always teaches us to be gentle in our dealings. To me, their respect, their honor, their discretion is a primary level expectation. Parents are supposed to be revered, but certainly much more than that.
When I remember my childhood days, I cannot forget the troubles my mother and father had to face in order to raise me and my siblings. And that is only from where I was old enough to recall. Thinking about the pain they went through for me in the early days when I was just a baby and I had no idea about what was happening, I realize how much they had to go through. To me, my parents are supposed to be more than just appreciated. I don't only respect them but, I appriciate their wishes above mine. That's what they deserve 💗
