Northern shoveler
A pair of Northern shovelers glides along the quiet surface of the dawn lake. These ducks can be easily distinguished from others by their huge wide beaks. The beak of the male is black, the female is red. From a distance, females look like common mallards. However, the male is distinguished by a bright contrasting color - an emerald green head and a white-orange body. Northern shovelers are very cautious ducks, and although they fed near the shore, when a person approached, they immediately sailed away to the middle of the lake.
