MAcFiT Season 25 - "World Cup 2026"

Hello,

I am pleased to announce that MAcFiT is back! The 25th edition will be special - we will follow the FIFA World Cup 2026 format.

Record 48 participate in the World Cup. However, I am not sure if we could get 48 active Hive account@actifit participants. I have therefore decided to limit the roster to 36 players. There will play in 12 groups. One slot in each group will be "dummy", meaning that playing participants will get at least 3 points (for walk-over against the dummy).

Tournament Formula

The tournament will mirror World Cup 2026 rules. Group phase is single round robin. Two best players from each group + 8 best players from 3rd places will advance to playoffs.

Players are assigned to groups based on the current ranking, using serpentine method. Therefore, players ranked 1-12 top each subsequent group, A thru L, with the exception that Hive account@revlat35 as the defending champion goes to Group A, even thought they are ranked 3rd.
Players ranked 13-24 are assigned to groups L thru A (opposite order to top seeded) and then players ranked 25-36 go to groups A thru L. The last slot in each group is a dummy.

Each player is virtually assigned to a real World Cup team (as per official World Cup site). So, Hive account@revlat32 in group A is assigned to Mexico, Hive account@merhtin, heading group B, is Canada and so forth (see below). The assignment means that players will follow the exact schedule of their teams in the real World Cup.

The opening game is on June 11 and it is Mexico vs South Africa, therefore our tournament will kick-off with Hive account@revlat35 vs Hive account@elizabethbit

I will publish the fixtures of each round of matches (3 posts in the group phase). Every player can check the World Cup fixtures and figure out when they play.

Last thing, Hive account@actifit reports are the only source of step counts for this tournament. I am aware of the problems of the Hive account@actifit App. Therefore, players who think that the App is not accurate, can comment the relevant schedule posts and paste a screenshot from their Google/Apple Health App - before I publish the official results (2 days after the given match day).
