Should You Shrink-Wrap Your Luggage?

Shrink-wrapping was never my thing until I heard and witnessed some horror situation at the airport.

I am a carry-on only person and I try not to bring too many things other than my essentials when I travel. Though I admit I am guilty of over packing but at least, it's no more than a 30L bag and a shoulder bag. There are some reasons why I never really like having a checked-in baggage such as time and money. When it comes to time, I simply hate waiting 40 minutes and even an hour for my baggage to arrive and when it comes to money, it's simply more economical to fly without a checked baggage.

Despite all that, sometimes when I travel with my mom or intending to spend the days as a vacation instead of wandering, I am often carrying extra 10kg and they go to checked baggage. Whenever I fly from my destination to another airport, I generally fly with carry-on and only when I am going back, I would use my foldable duffel bag to stash some gifts and other items that are usually around 10kg. I would then go to wrapping service to wrap the bag and making sure that it's neatly wrapped and doing my part for some preventive measures for my bag that won't be under my control and supervision.

I don't know how other countries handling luggage but when flying domestically, it can be a nightmare. It's not handled very carefully and sometimes you can see some damaged here and there. And this is where rink-wrapping comes handy, they also protect your bag from rough handling and sometimes, from theft. Other than that I also make a habit of taking pictures before and after condition of the bag. To be fair, this is also another reason why I am opposed to checked baggage, it's simply another extra hassle compared to when I have everything under my control and supervision.

It's interesting how recently when I flew back and landed in ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡จ, I spotted some upset couples who were checking the zipper and looked pretty upset. It seemed like it had been opened and that situation is something I witnessed more than once and safe to say, I don't regret at all wrapping my baggage with plastics for more protection.

At the same time, I can also understand that plastic-wrapping your bag may not be the most environmentally friendly way to travel or move around. It sure does provide extra protection, safety and comforting feeling knowing that if anyone opens your bag and planting something on it, there's evidence that the bag was torn apart. I mean, certainly you never know but personally, I love doing my preventive measure and giving me a piece of mind. Though when I walked through the wrapping counter, I felt a little awkward but f*ck it; all for the sake of piece of mind ๐Ÿคฃ.

By the way, If you're traveling through DMK (Don Mueang) Bangkok, Thailand and you're into wrapping your luggage, I'd recommend checking out MRS. Wrap. They're around the entrance of the International Departure and just around the check-in counter. It's reasonable and they gave you the receipt wrapped inside with stickers and some note. Then you can wander around DMK with a piece of mind.
