Not sure how long this is going to last
When I was in Thailand, I know one thing that my laptop age is going to be quite short but I didn't expect that it would be shorter.
From yesterday, I found out that my laptop won't turn on which was a nightmare for me. I mean, who doesn't? I am sure if that's your lifeline, you'd probably worried too.
So, I did what I can to fix it on my own. I know my way around it and with a little bit hardware how to from youtube, I am usually able to fix it. The problem is, I am currently away from my repair tools which made the whole ordeal became a lot more complicated. I ended up asking for my mom to borrow tools from my uncle and trying to find the tools that my dad had. I ended up finding screwdrivers and thankfully some of them were small enough to open screws for mobile and laptop.
My current laptop is Asus vivobook. Though I love how nice it looks and its keyboard including its performance. I just found out that isn't as easy to repair as HP, Dell, or Lenovo or even Axioo.
Apparently, some of my friends and people I know reported that their Asus just suddenly won't turn on and that's the end of it. I don't want it to be the end of my laptop, not until I am moving back home and getting a lot more settled. So, I am even more motivated to fix it.
What I did to troubleshoot it was with turning off the laptop and holding the power button for a couple of seconds. This method worked at first but then, after I left home for a morning run, my laptop won't be turned on. I panicked and after trying the same method, nothing worked until I suspect that I might need to resetting my bios or cleaning up the inside of my laptop which were fairly dirty and needed a good clean. I mean months of wandering, on the road, office is anywhere. This laptop has had its fair share of exhaustion.
Opening the inside part of Asus was not as easy as any other laptops that I repaired in the past. There are just a lot of screws that you have to carefully take off.
First you have also have to carefully unplug the keyboard and the mouse cords.
Then, more unscrews await as you try to clean the fan and unplugging the rest of the parts including the motherboard.
I didn't get to the part where I unplugged my battery because I don't have the correct screwdriver size for the last part of the screws nearby it.So god knows if what I did was going to last longer than a day.
After cleaning all the parts, the tricky step is putting everything back on and eventually trying it again. I tried to attach and reattach the keyboard and mouse cable more than once until I finally able to power it through again. It was on.... just not in the way I wanted it to be.
The laptop was stuck in the bios menu and until I tweaked some of its security features, I ended up booting on my linux again. This laptop runs on linux which is why it has extra steps compared to when it's windows installed. But in the end, I could pick my kernel again and voila, it's turned back on.
Just to make sure that i'll turn on again after this simple tweak, I turned the laptop off. I powered it on again, and it was working! Finger crossed that it'll last until the next few weeks ๐ฌ. This makes me think twice of Asus as though it looks decent and has a great performance, the repair is just quite a headache. Have you got any problem with Asus before?
