Across the Chasm
The bridge before me seems sturdy
Yet it is not the wood that holds my gaze
The chasm beneath draws me in
And my eyes are lost in the haze
The future before me is bright
Not but a few steps till freedom
They say the first step is the hardest
I rarely listen to them.
My path is my own and adventure beckons
Firstborns strike a certain chord
I’ll travel the road less smooth
Truly, you won’t find me bored
Legacy compels me forward
Not but a few strands of my soul remain
What I once found to be worth it all
Now is forever left to drain
Only those who give are sure to find
What more could we ask than life hereafter
I’m grateful for this path before me
I’m ready for the next chapter
