Forgiveness
I have always been taught that forgiving is essential. From a very young age, I have been taught by my parents and church to forgive those who mistreat me. As a Christian, I believe that Christians have been called upon to forgive others just as they have been forgiven by God.
In the Holy Bible, when peter inquired from Christ on the number of times that a person ought to forgive another, he instructed Peter that such a person should forgive his fellow servant “seventy times seven”. This teaching implies that a Christian is never limited in how much he should forgive others, and always remain open and willing to offer forgiveness.
I believe that all human beings deserve forgiveness. No person is perfect in this earthly world; everyone has shortcomings, and these may stem either out of the person's intention or inadvertently. Sometimes, we may use offensive words, shatter another’s hopes, or perform actions that cause suffering, deep agony, disappointment, or grief. Anger, sadness, and betrayal are all expected emotions, and, in some situations, it may seem completely unbearable and impossible to grant forgiveness.
Yet, holding resentment and maintaining Anger will have adverse effects. If one resists to extend any offer of forgiveness; they will be carrying pain in their hearts as they will be in the dark and sad. Being stubborn may just worsen one’s suffering over a prolonged period. Being ready to offer forgiveness, nevertheless, helps in the process of alleviating our pains by allowing us to move on to greater heights of healing and tranquility.
In most circumstances, forgiveness does not include the deliberate forgetfulness of the offense which was done against one, nor the agreement that, which a person was done is right. Also, forgiving someone doesn't entail allowing any one person to violate anyone at anytime.
In simple terms, the process of forgiving someone merely signifies that one has made the conscious choice not to allow hatred to dictate their emotions, but rather, rather; they aim at embracing tranquility of peace.
When it comes to me experiencing pain due to the actions of another; I strive to bear in my heart, God’s instructions about love, grace, and compassion. I find the strength and comfort in the act of prayer, particularly, when I find myself in suffering or any difficulties.
Likewise, I remember that I too have also faltered and that I have required other persons to forgive me as well, not only when it pleases my satisfaction and happiness but rather to keep myself on the right track and moving forward.
Forgiveness is power, as the victim becomes the benefactor. Ultimately, for myself; I know it brings me solace, peace of mind, and spiritual betterment as an aspect of reflection of God’s loving ways.
