Under the Warm Sun My Uncle’s Beloved Tomato Garden, Where Every Red Fruit Grows from Family Care
This is my uncle’s tomato garden back home in Aurora. Every time I go to the province first thing I do is check it out. The place looks so nice under the sun all the plants lined up neat and clean.
The first time we planted here the soil was just dug up real good. Dark brown and soft like it was ready to take care of the tiny seedlings. We put each little plant in straight rows my uncle says that’s how they grow best.
After a few weeks the plants started shooting up tall. They got so big we had to prop them up with bamboo sticks from the woods nearby. Those sticks keep the heavy branches from falling over when the tomatoes start coming out.
Now look at it all green and bushy, with little yellow flowers popping out everywhere. Those flowers turn into tomatoes later on. You can tell the garden’s doing great it’s like a big green blanket on the ground.
That pic with me standing there? I was so hyped to see how much everything grew. Uncle let me help him take care of the plants we pull weeds carry water from the creek nearby and make sure bugs don’t mess with them.
He taught me how to tell when tomatoes are ready to pick. They go from green to bright red and feel a little squishy when you press them gently. We always pick early in the morning before it gets too hot outside.
Uncle does not just grow these for us he shares a lot with neighbors and relatives. The rest he sells at the market in Aurora. Everyone there knows his tomatoes taste way better than the ones you buy at the store.
We make all sorts of stuff with salad sinigang, even spaghetti sauce. Every bite tastes so good because we know how much work went into it. This garden’s really special to our family's.
